26. Remove the small phillips screw at the top corner (left on LHD cars and right on RHD cars) of the center vent assembly. Unsnap (gently pull straight out) the other top corner of the vent assembly and remove it. If electrical connections are present (later models) do not unplug it - just let it down gently to the floor. Earlier models: remove the vent assembly. 27. Remove the 2 screws on either side of the under dash light (if present) - on the passenger side of the car. Let the ECU down to the floor - it is not necessary to unplug it. 28. Remove the 10 mm nut from the stud located just above the under dash light. Other models: especially early RHD (photo at left): There are two studs under the dash which fix a bracing to the firewall. One is close to the steering column and the other is in a corresponding position on the passenger side above the ECU (and where an under-dash light might be present). 30. Remove the 2 screws which retain the right vent. Turn the vent to the closed position to prevent it from being damaged upon its removal. Carefully pry up and pull out (simultaneously and gently) on the vent (do not just pull on it) and remove it. Use two plastic strips (the suggested Vent Removal Tools in Introduction & Tools) will prevent damage. (Continued below...) Slip the cut end of each strip into a side of the vent and move it up and down until the strip comes into contact with the hidden "tab" or "lug" holding the vent in place. Fit the tab into the notch cut out of the strip and pull the strips outward with the vent. As you do this the strip engages with the tab, pulling it flat and releasing the vent.
29. Loosen or remove the 13 mm nut on the stud located in the bottom right and bottom left corners of the dash. It may be sufficient to loosen them, allowing the dash to be slid back, but if this is not enough, remove them.
